The Different Types of Horse Halters Available

Each and every horse needs a halter which is comfortable and which does not cause it any sort of difficulty whatsoever.  However many horse owners neglect this completely and buy halters which can for the most part be detrimental for the Horse’s well-being and can cause it difficulty when moving around.

A perfect example of such a halter is the Cheap Polypropylene halter.

These are fairly inexpensive, but they are made from cheap hardware and hence they don’t last for a long amount of time. It has a fairly low tensile strength which means that the halter can break easily at any time.

Nylon Halters

These are amongst the most common of all halters that are out there. They come in various shape, sizes and patterns and are extremely resilient to the weather. Furthermore these halters are extremely strong and have strength of around 4200 pounds, making them extremely tough to break.

Leather Halters

These look absolutely fantastic and are extremely durable in the sense that they don’t break as easily when they are properly taken care off. They are perfect for grooming a horse.

Training Halters

If you plan on using a training halter ensure that it fits your horse properly. In the wrong hands a training halter can do more harm than good. Don’t ever use this to trailer to your horse. This will cause the horse immense discomfort.

Shipping Halters

These are designed specifically for trailering they are made of either Nylon or Leather and come with a breakaway tab which is encased in sheepskin usually to protect the skin of the horse. It intentionally lacks a throat latch and jaw piece to allow for easier cleaning of the Horse’s jowls.
